My recent work addresses a promise I made to my mother to take care of my mentally disabled sister at her death. For six years, I have cared for my mentally disabled sister, Renee. She is 51 years old, but has the mindset of a second grader. Renee also has epilepsy. My work addresses the difficulties of caring for someone who is mentally disabled. It also celebrates the beauty of seeing the world through Reneeā€™s eyes. I promised my mother that I would take care of my sister as if she were my own child. I never thought that my mother would die, and I had no idea what caring for Renee would entail.
